In 2020, Calyx Energy chose a SCADA provider who could fit their budgetary needs as the oil and gas market began to recede. As a result of using a low-cost provider, Calyx experienced some operational issues that outweighed the cost savings in the long run. When the oil and gas industry began to recover, Calyx decided to switch to the eLynx SCADA solution.
Because of the dedication and responsiveness of the eLynx team, Calyx was completely onboarded to the eLynx system two weeks ahead of schedule. Brian states, “I was the only Calyx person involved with the onboarding process, and I was still able to do the rest of my job during the onboarding process.”
For example, when the eLynx team received vital SCADA data from the previous SCADA vendor, the eLynx team then merged it with the formatting needed. Brian appreciated that eLynx did not put the workload on him to reformat the export.
There were weekly project meetings that occurred with the eLynx Customer Success Team during the on-boarding process.
eLynx values operating with a sense of urgency, and the eLynx Support Team is a powerful embodiment of that quality. Brian stated, “They are quick-to-respond. I can ask a vague question, and the eLynx support team can figure out what I am trying to ask with just one follow-up email.”
The Calyx team asked eLynx to build out new development capabilities before the official launch day. The eLynx development team pushed four of their development ideas through completion in a timely manner. The most notable development being the new mobile form capabilities to help with compliance.
The operations team currently uses the emissions report form the most often. This effort will help the company further their goals concerning their gas sustainability program. They also have forms for incidents and spills. Calyx completely eliminated another software and the associated costs because of the work eLynx did to execute form capabilities.
Because eLynx added form capabilities, the Calyx team eliminated the need for one of their field data capture vendors. Reducing third party vendors can help alleviate application fatigue for field team members and budgetary restraints.
With their previous provider, Calyx had to find their own field communications provider independently. This is an added layer of frustration for many operators. With eLynx, field communications capabilities are included in the services provided. eLynx helps manage the associated data plans with each modem to help maximize the cost effectiveness of airtime and minimize the potential for any overages.
The pumpers on the Calyx team especially enjoy the Alarm Dashboard. Before onboarding the eLynx SCADA system, the alarm schedules did not work properly on Calyx’s previous SCADA system. Pumpers that were on-call did not receive alerts, which resulted in costly operational issues.
On the eLynx system, the Calyx team can have peace of mind, knowing they will receive critical alerts when they are on the clock, and they will not receive them when they are off-the-clock.
Because the eLynx Rules Engine allows you to create more targeted alarms, the alarms being received hold more value in that they are usually actionable. Brian mentioned that the alarms he now gets with the eLynx system, even if they are in the middle of the night, are usually necessary.
