3 Advantages of a Modern Data Historian

Learn the advantages of a cloud-based data historian with access to an API.

There are many advantages to having a data historian on a cloud platform with access to an API. First, the API provides a level of accessibility to data that is incomparable. You can easily combine data from multiple systems and see it all in the eLynx system as a cohesive data set. Secondly, the cloud platform gives operators disaster recovery capabilities that are essential to maintaining industry standards and regulations. Lastly, having a data historian allows engineers to track and retain data insights that would otherwise be lost without it.

1. Having an API to Do ‘Easy Data In, Easy Data Out’

You should be able to analyze your data however you would like. With eLynx, you can easily pull together data from different software systems and discover patterns and understandings in the tools that you like to use. We built connectors that feed some of the most prominent data visualization tools. Discover meaningful data insights with the eLynx application using our native connectors to tools like Spotfire and Tableau.

Real-time data should be as simple to use as possible, no matter how the data is used. Leverage other useful tools and software systems by utilizing our API integrations. There is no need to build custom integrations. Our universal API can connect to most third-party APIs. Spend time analyzing your data, not managing it.

You can interact with the eLynx API (without writing any code) by leveraging the API via the Excel add-in. Pull your data directly into excel in a prespecified format, which can save your engineers a lot of time when creating daily and weekly reports that they rely on. The eLynx report engine allows you to select data based on a specific time period or format.

2. Track and Retain Data Insights with the eLynx Data Historian

In the Production Dashboard, you can add manual or automated diagnostics to a trend (i.e. labeling your time series data set). With manual diagnostics, you are crowdsourcing your data labeling to your engineers.  With automated diagnostics you are allowing your engineers to deploy their own math to have the system find and label events at scale.  Once you have labeled time series data, you create a powerful data set that can then be leveraged for machine learning.  It is important to note that this capability is not achievable when you have Spotfire alone. You must have the data historian component to be able to retain diagnostic insights like these.

3. Built-In Disaster Recovery

eLynx provides and maintains secondary copies of your data so you don’t have to. Your team can rely on eLynx to make sure you will never lose any data during an outage. It is important to ask your current SCADA or data historian provider about the types of resiliency they have in place in the event of an outage. eLynx employs data redundancy via the cloud, which can minimize potential loss of data with automatic creation of primary and secondary copies of your data. Moreover, with eLynx, engineers and operators are provided complete transparency regarding any potential application issues that may affect operations via the application status page. Redundant networks and data centers increase service reliability with redundant networks and data centers to minimize downtime of the eLynx application.
